Keltic Gold is here....

Keltic Gold is a semi-hard cheese from Cornwall, made by Sue Proudfoot at Whalesborough Farm Foods near Bude. During ripening, it is dipped in cider and scrubbed three times each week. The milk comes from Trewithen Dairy and the cider from Cornish Orchards.
Fantastic New Range Of Punjabi Curry Bases, Chapatis and Pickles in the Deli

Punjaban’s philosophy is simple; No compromises on authenticity. It was this principle that is at the heart of the company when Charanjit Sapal (also know as Charlie) started the business in 2010. She still runs the company with her two children Gurjeet and Ria.
When Gurjeet went to university he missed her home cooked food so much that Charlie sent her sauce up for him to use.
This started to become a regular occurrence and she began to cook a batch every day! Little did she know that Gurjeet had enormous demand for the delicious sauce from his friends and he had started selling it around the campus for beer money!!!
When the truth finally revealed itself the family knew there was a demand for something more traditional and that is how Punjaban was born.
To this day, every jar that is lovingly hand-made is made with the same care and attention as Gurjeet’s curry was when he was missing his mum’s proper Punjabi cooking.
Punjaban curries are :

A new artist exhibiting at Provender
This week we are delighted to announce that we have a fantastic new artist exhibiting in the Café. Jennifer Chow. We first met Jennifer at the Frome Christmas market and were so knocked out by the character of her prints that we made her an offer to exhibit right there and then [not something that we do very often!!]
Some examples of Jennifer's work are shown below but we would seriously encourage you to come along and see Jennifer's work for yourself.
"My work is inspired by the natural world around me. Being a professional gardener gives me an abundance of material to work with, whether it’s wildflowers, vegetables, or access to beautiful views.
Combining the qualities of line and space, I carve lino and wood to create images that reflect the inspiration of these snapshots around me.
Several of my prints are produced by a “reduction” method of relief printing whereby only one block is used. The first part of the block to be cut away is where the white of the paper will show through in the image.
The block is inked up and the first colour is printed, then more of the surface of the block is cut away in between printing each colour. This method of printmaking is exciting (and scary), as the outcome is very difficult to predict and the image seems to come to life during the process. After printing the block is discarded, as it is impossible to recreate the same image again.
I will continue to make prints, building on these themes as I catch glimpses of inspiration in my day-to-day life."

Friday 14th Feb is a special Valentine’s night @ Provender
Do you remember Berni Inns……??
For those of us that are old enough to remember the Bay City Rollers, back in the 70’s (that’s the 1970s, not 1870s) there was the always the ‘delight’ of a Valentine’s night out at a Berni Inn. Do you remember them?
The menu always seemed to be the same……..Prawn Cocktail was the starter, Steak Diane was usually the main of choice and the dessert was always Black Forest Gateau - all accompanied by either a bottle of Blue Nun or, if you were posh, a bottle of Black Tower!!! Plus, there was always the temptation of a liquer ‘special’ coffeee with floating cream to finish the evening.
In memory of those heady days, we have constructed our Valentine’s night menu to be a contemporary and updated interpretation of that wonderful 1970s fare………..
Whether you remember all of this, or not, why not come along and try our great interpretation of some 1970s food classics?
