A new artist exhibiting at Provender

This week we are delighted to announce that we have a fantastic new artist exhibiting in the Café.  Jennifer Chow.  We first met Jennifer at the Frome Christmas market and were so knocked out by the character of her prints that we made her an offer to exhibit right there and then [not something that we do very often!!]

Some examples of Jennifer's work are shown below but we would seriously encourage you to come along and see Jennifer's work for yourself.

"My work is inspired by the natural world around me. Being a professional gardener gives me an abundance of material to work with, whether it’s wildflowers, vegetables, or access to beautiful views.

Combining the qualities of line and space, I carve lino and wood to create images that reflect the inspiration of these snapshots around me.
Several of my prints are produced by a “reduction” method of relief printing whereby only one block is used. The first part of the block to be cut away is where the white of the paper will show through in the image.

The block is inked up and the first colour is printed, then more of the surface of the block is cut away in between printing each colour. This method of printmaking is exciting (and scary), as the outcome is very difficult to predict and the image seems to come to life during the process. After printing the block is discarded, as it is impossible to recreate the same image again.

I will continue to make prints, building on these themes as I catch glimpses of inspiration in my day-to-day life."
